Last week we got the news that the FDA approved the generic form of the hydroxyprogesterone I have been taking. In believing this good news, we stopped our attempts in trying to get the name brand- Makena. Although this is true, my pharmacy has decided not to make it, considering it a liability. In hindsight, the wording in their statement isn't exactly 100% supportive:
"In order to support access to this important drug, at this time and under this unique situation, FDA does not intend to take enforcement action against pharmacies that compound hydroxyprogesterone..."
So, here we go trying to get our insurance company to cover the $1,400/week tab and get it delivered to our house by Saturday. Even more of a time crunch. According the company that makes Makena, they have assistance to help people like us pay for it: "Insured women with annual household incomes up to $100,000 who apply for assistance will get Makena at a copay cost of $20 or less per injection." I'll turn in my paperwork tomorrow and have it sent in. Hopefully, we'll hear soon! If not, we still have the back up of using another form of the drug. We are just praying for the safest option for Stella, whatever that may be!
