Summer lovin.
That's what life is all about these days. Stella has been in school for over a month now and is loving it. My class wrapped up so the girls only go to school two days a week and we have lots of time together.
So far, we have gone into Boston Common for the Frog Pond opening (the ice skating rink becomes a splash pool), strawberry picking, to the beach with friends which were all awesome. For the 4th, we went to Eric's family's lake house and had a wonderful time. We even stayed over night! This is a big deal. I don't think we have ever stayed over just one night since Addi was very little because it is just so darn difficult. Even the day trips weren't that easy or, truthfully, worth it.
I feel a renewed sense of freedom, being able to bring my sweet girls to all these places without (huge) meltdowns, lots of stuff and sleepless nights for days after. I still get a little nervous doing new things with them but they always exceed my expectations.
Speaking of exceeding my expectations, yesterday was a big day for milestones. We have taken the girls out on their bikes and scooters before but yesterday yielded big results. First, I have to say that it is tough to use these two sets of toys without both parents present because of the considerable possibility of things that could go wrong. Injuries, fatigue, kids going in opposite directions... we mostly make this a team sport. Anyhow, we took both girls out yesterday and they did amazing.
First, Addi and I took a scooter trip around campus. she went the whole way without much help and no tears when she fell into a bush. She told me "I am good, Mommy, I am tough!" And she was! We came back to find Stella scootering up and down our street. This is a huge accomplishment for Stella as she couldn't figure out how to move her scooter and mostly would just walk it. So cute to see them doing it together. After nap, they asked to take the bikes out. Stella is young and still getting the hang of it but gave it a very good try. Addi was quite nervous at first but after remembering and practicing how to break, she did an awesome job.
These girls amaze me every day. Stella is hysterical these days. She alternates from sweet and affectionate to who is this child screaming on the floor? Thankfully, this is less jarring as we already saw and survived this with her sister. She loves to dance and sing and is enjoying making new friends at school. She is quick to compliment everyone saying "That is so sweet!" She is a very good friend who plays nicely with others, including her sister most of the time. A true joy to be around.
Besides her new scooter and bike skills, Addi is becoming more and more of a little girl every day. Her speech has improved and she rarely make mistakes or pronounces things wrong anymore. She understands more things and loves to be silly. Which is quite funny in and of itself because she is pretty particular about things sometimes. Especially when it comes to what she wears or what I wear for that matter. She prefers we both wear skirts or dresses at all times. It is nice to see she can let her hair down and not take herself too seriously. Like her sister, she is a very good friend and sister and only fights over jewelry and boys.
Yes, my girls had their first fight over a boy. A little boy who is the son of friends of ours s the object of my daughters' collective affection. Apparently worthy of an all-out brawl. Thankfully, they have gotten over this quickly but I don't think it is gone forever. Ok, time to get back to summer but I will be updating about our exciting news soon! (Sorry, no babies- don't want to get any hopes up)
