Winter Wanderings

Currently, our little family is snowed in with over 24 inches of snow from the Juno blizzard (6th biggest in Boston-ever)! Two days off from school so far full of snowball fights, hot chocolate, snuggling, movies and family time there aren't too many complaints. We didn't lose power which is a blessing considering we did during Nemo in 2013 and there was lots of snow and wind. This is our first shovel-able snow this year and before this storm we had no snow on the ground at all. At 60 degrees on Christmas day we had the windows open! We made up for lost time.

Speaking of the holidays, they were absolutely wonderful. My family was here for both Thanksgiving and Christmas so they were full of fun. Thanksgiving was a short visit so we went out to dinner (yup, we go out on Thanksgiving and it is awesome) and my Mom and I enjoyed our very favorite tradition- Black Friday! While we were out, the girls made snowmen because we got a tiny bit of snow that melted soon after. They had a blast! Before Thanksgiving, the girls counted down the days until Nanny and Poppy got here, too cute!

Thanksgiving kicked off the basketball season at my school so we've been busy ever since going to games near and far. The girls really love their teams and have true team spirit. If we can't make it to a game, we stream it on tv and cheer along. The girls don't just love the teams, the teams love them as well! We are blessed with players and student fans who take time to make our girls feel special. I usually don't see the girls much during games because they are selling concessions, in the student cheering section or playing with my co-workers kids. Addi loves to dance and looks for any opportunity to do so at games. Stella has other things on her mind like a few of the male players she calls her brothers. They go out of their way to make the her and Addi feel special like making sure to say hi before or after (or during) games and spending time with them outside the gym. Not many male college students spend time with preschool little girls watching Cinderella just to spend time with them. It blesses this Mama's heart.

If it isn't a game night (which they want it to be every night), we are busy with dance class and church. Addi wrapped up soccer in the fall and loved it. It took her all season to come out of her shell and go after the ball but she did the at the very last game. We are so proud! She was also lucky to have her  babysitters come to one of her games (they are all soccer players) and they was tickled. She couldn't stop giggling. Too cute. She will play again in the spring and I think Stella can go next spring. Both girls are taking dance together now and they are loving it. They had their first dance recital during the holidays where they did one ballet dance and one tap. Their babysitters came to that, too and the girls loved it. They did a wonderful job and we couldn't have been more proud.

Our Christmas week was full of fun, too. My family returned and we squeezed a lot into a week. First, a concert at the Boston Pops and lunch in the city. This was wonderful and immediately after, Eric and I came home (the girls napped at my parents room at the college) and put together their big Christmas surprise- their big girl room! Little beds out, big beds in, new curtains, decorations, bedding... everything! We did it all in just a few hours with the help of my Dad and it turned out beautifully. We met the girls for the Christmas Eve service at church and then walked home to the big surprise. They were ecstatic! Addi exclaimed "I always wanted a big bed!" I was shocked that they fell asleep that night but they did just to wake up to the other girls under the tree in the morning. Dress up was the theme this year and it was a hit. We took it easy in the morning, made dinner, ate and headed out to our newest tradition- going to the movies. We saw "Annie" and we all loved it. We'll be doing that again next year. We rounded out the week with a trip to the Boston Ballet's "Nutcracker". It was Stella's first time and she loved it! I was a little nervous about a 3 year old at the ballet but I shouldn't have been. We had wonderful people sitting around us who found her commentary "Ohh! He is HANDSOME!" cute and not irritating.

We spent the week of New Years together with our little family, just spending time together and then it was back to school for all of us. I worked more than full time last semester- 5 classes in 3 days a week so this semester is feeling like a vacation with only 3 classes. The girls are loving school and learning so much! Stella is doing a wonderful job with her counting and is starting to be quite accurate with her letters. Addi is hard at work learning to write her name and all the other letters! Both are improving with their coloring skills. I can't get enough of their imaginations which run wild with an old Disney castle I had as a kid or the pile of dress-up clothes. They play for hours. Both love to read and tell stories which always makes us laugh.

Well, nap time is over and it is time to play! There is no higher calling!
